BER is the short for Berlin Airport and for the rest of ze Germans, Berlin is a country for itself.
I love Elder on stage and since 2014 I have managed not to pay too much attention to the two minutes of singing in their 11-minute songs. What bothers me about Elder is the skills-oriented songs, i.e. everyone in the band gets to show what they can do. The songs sometimes rush from one highlight to the next and somehow it's a lot of work for nothing because nothing sticks after an Elder concert. Apart from the skills of the four band members. Delving is the complete antithesis of all my criticisms of Elder; sparse instrumentation, plenty of room for sometimes nothing, atmosphere-oriented songs, instrumental songs, a laidback attitude by playing. I guess, if an artist does something different apart from his trademark, you can call it art, including the fantastic artwork. After one listen, a previously undiscovered facet of Nick DiSalvo's work remains: lightness, almost floating fluidity over a watercolor painting.
Fantastic record.
