1000mods (GRE) - Cheat Death

1000mods have slowly grown up and can now draw on a larger music library than on their previous albums. The guitars are no longer tuned so low, Dani's voice has probably found a new inspiration from Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins). In general, this album is the Greek version of Smashing Pumpkins' work "Mellon Cllie and the Infinite Sadness", as the band presents a much larger range of musical styles that don't really fit together. That's what makes this album so exciting.

The almost 8-minute opener "Overthrow" manages to combine the entire 90s in one song, tough Lyne Staley vocals, numerous breaks and rhythm changes, galloping beats and numerous guitar duels that are reminiscent of Iron Maiden. I can summarize this song as "Phantom of the Opera" by 1000mods.

"The One who keeps you down" is a straightforward, no-frills rock song with guitar work that is more reminiscent of 80s heavy metal songs than 90s grunge or punk. It's guaranteed to be a banger live.

"Götzen Hammer" is a 5 minute riff bombardment at half speed, a pretty awesome track, but it is completely counteracted and dissolved by the melodic vocal line. A rather annoying song the first time you hear it, but the class really comes into its own after you listen to it several times.

Ok guys, I know the record already and I never was that much in 1000mods on their previous records. This is a live band. Now they created a record, which I heard through - which never happened on their previous records - and I am really stoked about it. Now I´m looking forward to hear this fantastic record live.
