Black Tusk & The Necromancers, 10-31-2024, La Grenze, Straßbourg

Deafslow did a good job to warm up the audience; distorted bass sound with a lot of fuzzy guitars playing in the style of Fu Manchu, Kyuss, spiced with two excellent voices. In fact, there was nothing new, but the music went straight, without surprising the audience and was good to bang your head. The sound-man did a great job for them and the band sounded really good on stage and for the audience. With a bit more experience, this band is a good choice for the upcoming summer festivals. A positive surprise.

The biggest distance I traveled for a band was 150km in 1985 when I wanted to see ze German Heavy Metal Band Trance in Mannheim. For The Necromancers, we traveled around 400km to see them in Strassbourg. Their last year appearance at the Blackdoor Festival in Passau was such an amazing concert which will stay in our minds for the rest of our life. So the same happened here in a different venue with different conditions for the sound and lights. This band makes 8-10 minutes lasting songs pass like 3 minutes. This band plays complex and progressive songs with ease and makes them appear as catchy pop songs. Opening with THE song "Salem Girl, Pt. 1" to "Black Marble House". Oh no, for this one there wasn´t any time left due the tombola. The 50 minutes was a mighty demonstration of a tight and rhythm section, of fantastic guitar skills on rhythm and lead and a charismatic vocalist. So don´t miss this band on their upcoming shows in Europe.

Black Tusk from Savannah provided the musical counterpart to the fine, melodic and harmonious compositions of The Necromancers over the next hour. Sludge with a full broadside of metal and hardcore punk, supported by four voices that wanted to outdo each other in rawness and brutality. An hour of power, groove and aggression at its finest. A great band with a great concert.
