The opening track “Alphaholics” kicks off with that chaotic sound of a radio channel-surfing through stations, like it can’t quite make up its mind. Then, out of nowhere, a muffled groove breaks through, and suddenly – BANG! Coma Hole jumps in with a bassline thick as a brick, Anderson's drums pounding tightly behind. Fir’s vocals hit with a blend of angst and melody that’s as raw as it is catchy. It’s a bold opener, and frankly, it could stand alongside the best...
This album sounds and grooves like Karma to Burn would have had a second guitarist, with the lead guitar practically singing and screaming. This album doesn't need lyrics to understand what the lead guitar is saying. The rhythm section grooves in the mid-tempo to half-time range and ensures that the listener can't stop headbanging. Mesmerizing hooks and fillings and unpredictable songs. This album is a silver lining to the loss of Karma to Burn. Fantastic record.
I'm actually always skeptical when I listen to songs that last longer than 3-5 minutes. Somehow the intro lasts 1 minute, then the main riff plays for a minute, then either Cookie Monster bawls, an elf wails, or the vocals are distorted to infinity or mixed into the background. And after 5 minutes the song trudges towards its end in 8 - 10 minutes without any further ideas. There are also other 8 minutes, such as the pre-released single "Delusion" by the Dortmund band Scorched Oak. Their quite...
Social Media made it possible to discover this festival. I follow Asphyx due their unforgettable performance at the Hellfest 2013 and Destruction and ze German Melodic Death Metal Band Parasite Inc., which we booked 2015 for a gig together with Cripper and Loudblast in our beloved Backstage in Munich. And to receive a message, that these three bands play together on a German festival made me curious to know more about it. So i checked their homepage and the part about us. M.I.S.E. is a...
Lemmy once said about Hawkwind: " If you get the flutes, the sax and the jingalingaling out of Hawkwind, it´s a very heavy music." So the Astrochemists from Singapore added a kind of jingalingaling 80´s mini-synth and massive guitars and driving rhythms so it comes quite near to the classic Hawkwind sound. It is almost mind-blowing what this band offers you; heavy riffs, a driving, forward pushing beat, hypnotizing riffs and the mentioned jingalingaling-thing.
I like the instrumental parts of Elder, that means 9 of 11 minutes; I like their riffs, breaks, hooks, everthing what they play, since the very first time I saw them live in 2015. Their compatriots Deorbit hailing with incredible musical and compositional skills to create a waste varied of musical styles and references for an unpredictable songs. All of them consist of a high level played music and there is no highlight peaking out of this massive collection of interesting and good songs. Not...
If you miss US-Metal-Bands like Culprit, Warrior, Helstar or Keel you can listen to this incredible Greek Band which riffs you back to the wall and makes you bang for 60 minutes and the voice sounds like a man. "In Orbit" is one of the best opener for the last couple of years, because the bands hide their best song somewhere in the middle of the album; this band has bollocks enough to start with a fantastic song and let 8 killers follow. Brilliant classical Heavy Metal.
Karma to Burn are legend now, King Weed will be the new torchbearer of powerful and complex instrumental rock. Also one of the few instrumental bands with an idea to use Judas Priestesque harmony hooks and a production close to Priest´s "Stained Class" or "Killing Machine".
