Surya (ESP) - Into the Emerald
Heavystoned Albums · 03.02.2025
I really like the instrumental parts of each every "Elder" song although they take about ten minutes. Surya from Cadiz, Spain, are the compact version of Elder playing organic and harmonic riffs with a warm tone between 3 and 8 minutes and they have a powerful voice which fits perfect to their music. The album starts with the instrumental ‘Evergreen River’ which eposes already all the facets of the upcoming album within two minutes. Without pause, the heavy riffs of ‘A Blazing Crusade’...

Mutha Trucka (USA) - Desert Warrior
Daily Peaks · 11.12.2024
Ultimately, it doesn't matter which song you listen to on this album, because every song kicks up a lot of dust with a roaring and pounding big block engine fitted bulldozer-like vehicle, with three guys sitting at the wheel, two with one arm out the window, with their middle fingers extended and a foad-attitude. This is such a dirty hard rock that doesn't give a damn about innovations, it just rocks. It doesn't matter whether it's stoner, hard or psychedelic rock, because every song has the...

Dunes (GBR) - Land of the Blind
Daily Peaks · 22.11.2024
With the majority of stoner bands, you have to be happy that a reasonably experienced singer is singing. The English band Dunes has the luxury of having two excellent voices, which alone stand out from the grey mush of "only" lower-pitched music. They have also packed their musical roots such as alternative rock and grunge into a fluffy, booming sound corset, which is very direct, straight and hits the mark. So far, only two songs are available on bandcamp, namely "Voodoo" and "Riding the Low",...

TFNRSH (GER) - Zemestån
Daily Peaks · 07.11.2024

Six Months of Sun (SUI) - Ningen
Daily Peaks · 06.11.2024
In my opinion, the Swiss band Six Months of Sun is, alongside the French band "The Necromancers", one of the most talented bands in terms of songwriting, technical skills and artwork. But somehow both bands seem to be happy with their status as semi-professional weekend bands. I don't understand why a band like Six Months of Sun puts more ideas into a 3 minute song than they do playing concerts. The previously released single "Ningen" also shows their ability on the instruments as well as in...

Black Tusk & The Necromancers, 10-31-2024, La Grenze, Straßbourg
Concerts & Tours · 03.11.2024
Deafslow did a good job to warm up the audience; distorted bass sound with a lot of fuzzy guitars playing in the style of Fu Manchu, Kyuss, spiced with two excellent voices. In fact, there was nothing new, but the music went straight, without surprising the audience and was good to bang your head. The sound-man did a great job for them and the band sounded really good on stage and for the audience. With a bit more experience, this band is a good choice for the upcoming summer festivals. A...

Sun and Sail Club (USA) - Tumble
Daily Peaks · 06.09.2024
The cover looks like the usual Post Rock covers and if you tune in the song, it´s more like the wolf in sheep´s clothing. Pure forward rocking Stoner Rock, performed by Scott Reeder, Tony Reed, Tony Adolescent and Bob Balch. When you listen for the first time, this track rocks and apparently it is the usual chords or power chords that let the track roll really fat. However, if you hear Bob Balch how this song was achieved, it is more complex than you thought when you hear it for the first...

Mr Bison (ITA) - The Veil (Video)
Daily Peaks · 11.08.2024
Mr Bison from Cecina are my declared successors to Yes. I don't know how this band manages to not only copy the complex sound of the prog forefathers, but to expand it even further and incorporate elements such as harmony singing and polyphonic guitars. It's all a grown, organic and natural unity that really captivates me as a musician and brain acrobat, even though I was and am never a fan of progressive rock. Add to that the artistically very appealing and sophisticated video, which is...

Sidewinder (NZL) - Talons
Daily Peaks · 11.06.2024
The fewer tags an album needs, the straighter the music is. This is what happened with the New Zealand band Sidewinder. They go through the entire history of stoner in just under 3 minutes with fat riffs, a fat fuzz guitar and a cutting, aggressive female voice. A fantastic appetizer for the album that will be released in August 2024.

Zig Zags (USA) - Strange Masters
Daily Peaks · 04.06.2024
There was a San Francisco based band in 1982 who first get the NWoBHM to US by playing their riffs and songs faster. The press called it Thrash Metal and the band called Metallica. Nowadys, a LA based band browsed in some NWoBHM bands like Blitzkrieg - for their song "Brainded Warrior", or overtake Hawkwind´s "Master of the Universe" opening riff for the opener "Scavenger" or Amon Amarth´s "Pursuit of Vikings" for the song "Voices of the Paranoid". The Zig Zags put a lot of dirt and fuzz into...
